New York Botanical Garden.-.Perfect family trip with kids this spring or summer

Entering into the month of March, I started harboring a hope of spring. Spring is all about wonderful weather and flower power.  Staying in New England, I always look forward to spring after a freezing winter and a few months of hibernation. I look forward going out for outdoor fun with my two kids. New York, the city has always offered best of everything. A few minutes away from New York City, Bronx botanical garden is a great day trip with kids, a beautiful nature escape from the daily urban grind.

The 250-acre land and 50 different garden and plant collection is a little paradise on earth where children can learn about plant science and ecology etc. A beautiful hike around the park itself is a great idea to experience the colorful flower blooms, daffodils, to tulips. cherry blossom and all different kinds of plant, natural water streams. Identify many different tress and flowers, explore wetland. If you have young kids like mine, they have tram, so you don’t have to take trouble of walking with them. The tram provides a 30-minute tram tour. The tram picks up and drops off at all major attractions, including the Everett and the Ruth Rea Howell Family Garden, a prerecorded narration highlights fun facts, interesting plant varieties, historical buildings, and ancient plants and trees. Small activities like Puppet Theater could be a fine idea for kids. In Ruth Rea Howell family garden kids can experience taking care of plants through gardening kids program and can play in the dirt, digs for worms and learn about many different things about food grown around the world, nutrition, healthy lifestyle etc.  My kids love climbing on the rocks, puppet shows, watching small ponds, playing music etc. And they have few cafes with decent food for you to eat with kids, inside the park.

It could be a great natural activity for your kids to connect with nature up close, if you are visiting the city this spring or summer.

  2. What a great way to introduce to children an understanding and love of nature. This is an example of something I believe all parents should engage their children in to be mindful of the environment, but also to enjoy so many of the benefits that being in the great outdoors gives us.
